Do We Live In A Free Society Or Not? by Donna
Do we live in a free society or not?

I am puzzled. If we live in a free society then why is it we cannot buy programming from Direct TV ( US Satellite)? Its Ok for us to steal the programming but its not Ok for us to buy it. I want to buy US programming but our government tells me I cannot because our Canadian culture must be protected at all costs, including my freedom of choice.

Well I wanted to buy into our Canadian culture so I bought a Canadian Satellite, Canadian contents and all. I am delirious with the fourth rate selections, movies that I've never heard of before, bad acting, bad story lines, French movies with English sub-titles, re-reruns from 40 years ago AND at a very high price I might add! If this is the best Canada can produce then why oh why are we protecting it? I'm sick of it! In a free society you make your own choices. They are not rammed down your throat. I am tired of being told what is good for me. I'm an adult. I can make my own decisions. If Canadians produced first rate programming, there would be no need to protect our culture by forbidding US programs from being sold here.

There are many Canadians pirating US programs. They are breaking the Law not because they are too cheap to legally purchase US programs but because in our FREE SOCIETY, our government dictates what we can watch. Give me HBO. Give me Good Movies. Give me first class entertainment. I don't want to break the law. I just want what is rightfully mine, democracy.

Delirious Donna
