Hazel Wants Out by Donna
Queen Hazel wants out of Peel Region. Mississauga Council led by her royal highness (notice the small capitalization here) has voted to ask the Provincial Government to be removed from the Region of Peel. According to Hazel, “We’ll tell them how we can be more efficient and lessen the future impact on property taxes.”

Caledon should go it alone or even join up with Orangeville according to Hazel. Brampton could absorb Caledon if they desire to do so. She has no desire to continue being part of the Region of Peel. She has the wealth and wants to go it alone.

Does it matter if the region works or not? Does it matter that the region is efficient, has a triple A rating, debt free, minimal tax increases and the lowest water and sewer rates in the country? Not if you’re the Queen of Mississauga.

Hazel wants to go it alone. The only thing missing is the power to control. Hazel is used to doing things her way. She can’t do that in the Region of Peel because she doesn’t have a voting majority. She figures she has the wealth and the higher population therefore she should run the region.

What next Hazel? Do you want to separate from the province too? How about Canada?

If I were Eves I would grant her wish. Then I would promptly amalgamate Mississauga with the rest of Toronto.

How would you like them apples Hazel?

Donna
