Volunteers Needed for Jesse's Foundation by Jesse's Sensory Garden
Volunteer(s) needed to construct approx. 2m x 2m cedar bridge from scratch for Jesse's Sensory Garden. Materials to be donated. Excellent project for father/son for high school community service hours or retiree. Currently a gap remains in the exisiting pathway for the future bridge, causing a potential safety hazard. We hope to find a volunteer(s), whom can begin construction as soon as possible.

Why a Sensory Garden?
Not all gardens or parks fully meet the needs of the disabled or the elderly. Jesse's Foundation for Music & Dance Therapy wishes to fill a void in Jesse’s community by creating an external, planted environment that can be appreciated and used more effectively by people with a range of disabilities including those with a sensory loss.

Jesse's Sensory Garden will be a garden for the entire community. Regardless of ability or age, the experience of the beauty, scent, sounds, tastes and texture of the garden will enrich all visitors. It will also provide:

  • a barrier-free stimulus (to welcome the disabled and the elderly)
  • an unique education resource for all citizens, featuring:
    • braille markers,
    • tactile sculptures,
    • raised garden beds,
    • wheelchair access,
    • enabling tools,
    • interactive learning panels,
    • musical play,
    • an outdoor classroom and so much more
  • a rare opportunity for the disabled to stay fit while volunteering within their community

How can members of the community help?
The volunteers can only succeed with the help of caring individuals and organizations. Construction began Tuesday October 29th, 2002. Yet, $5000.00 is still needed to meet our fundraising requirements for this Phase One. With your help, we can make Caledon an even better community in which to live, work and raise a family. Together, we can build this unique community garden as a vehicle to educate, as well as to restore mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Zehrs Tape Drop-off Boxes:
1. Main entrance at the new Caledon Centre for Recreation & Wellness in Bolton
2. Kids Can Do (located downtown 18 King St., E. in the building formerly known as the courtyards)

Donations:
1.Tax receipt for financial donations of $10.00 or more
2. Contributions of $150.00 or more will be listed permanently on Jesse's Sensory Garden donor marker.

Please consider Jesse’s Sensory Garden as a benefactor of your community charitable contributions this fall and together we will plant the seeds to accessibility.

Thank-you for your time and consideration.

Yours truly
Jesse's Sensory Garden Volunteers
